Congratulations to the Downers Grove Rebels 16U on being crowned the 2016 Park Ridge Pistols Invite Champions! They defeated the Winfield Wolverines in a battle of the number 1 and 2 seeds. While the weather looked threatening Sunday morning, the day turned out to be perfect for Championship softball. For the Rebels, playing shorthanded meant that most girls were on the field for all innings of all games.  They demonstrated focus, team work and sportsmanship.  They supported each other and came back from several deficits and never gave up.  The pitching was superb, the hitting got stronger each game and the defense was excellent.

Overnight rains delayed games both Saturday and Sunday, but that did not slow the Rebels down.  The girls played solid defense and offense, keeping them out in front most of every game.  It was a true team effort with every girl contributing to the team's success.

The girls made it to the Championship game on Sunday, but fell short to a much more experienced 12U team.  We took home the second place silver trophy.  Our girls played hard and never gave up.  They hit the ball all afternoon, unfortunately right at the opposition who made some spectacular (and some lucky) defensive plays.  MVP's were won during the Tournament by Sofia Storrs, Jessica Cagney, and Stephanie Rochowicz (who hit the team's first home run of the season).
